Inspiration

For Eli

IMG_0185

Powerful and soft,

You were a dazzling star.

Light and bright,

And tough and small.

You had a force,

So strong.

And they would stop,

And they would notice you.

You fought,

And you were confused,

But you were held,

So close.

And you were nursed,

And it was explained.

There were superheroes,

And there were animals,

And they battled along with you.

And your parents gave you something,

So extraordinary.

In a world that was not normal,

They gave you some normal,

And

Some special.

You laughed at vagines,

And bull bulls.

You held your polar bear close.

You loved Batman,

And pyjamas,

And the king of all the lions.

The dinosaur eggs took too long to hatch,

But you waited.

You played and laughed at Acton,

The Garden of the Dreams.

You chose the music.

And the big white rabbit tucked you in.

And you were held,

So close.

You touched everyone,

In a way that was hard to face.

Why you?

Why then?

It wasn’t fair.

There was a new beginning,

You were there,

Where you would always be,

But in the middle of a war.

You were held,

So tight.

How would you have been?

How would you have grown?

Into a sporting hero?

Or a graceful warrior?

You fought like one,

Who had fought before.

We thought there’d be a miracle.

Your parents, nearly broken, are strong,

Like you. And loved.

And they matter in the world.

And the circle of life continues,

Though it should at once have stopped,

At that moment,

When your breath,

No longer moved.

I lagged behind the others,

In believing it was true,

It wasn’t until I saw your Vikings,

And no you,

That I knew,

It was time to stop.

To let go.

But we did have you,

We met you,

We loved you,

We still do.

That is ours,

To keep.

And you weren’t like anyone else,

You were Eli,

The Viking Angel,

Angel Viking,

Angel.

Circles and circles and circles,

And circles and circles,

And light.

Love Aunty Em
