Born with a big spoon in his mouth, Eli loved all things eating. When he was younger he loved his porridge, his pasta, his mash, anything roasted, and he also loved his sweets. He especially loved strawberry-kiwi tarts and he liked to eat them very slowly. He also loved to share his food. He loved to drum while listening to music and to express his views through a range of facial expressions.
Eli loved life, his older brother Noam and his toy animals. On May 5 2014, at just 3 and a bit, he was diagnosed with a fatal brain tumour, Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma, or DIPG. With treatment, he was given 9 months to live. Eli lived 10. This site is about all things Eli. The way he lived, the meaning he’s given and the hope for other little superheroes. Bless you Viking Eli! Long you will reign in our hearts and minds!
Take a look at Eli’s short and sweet little life in pictures, a beautiful tribute put together by our friend Einav Gissinger:
To celebrate Eli’s life we held a series of events, with the event in Israel captured in the recording below:
At our event in Canberra, our friend Sophie Seck managed to photograph some beautiful moments:

Thank-you again to all of our friends and family who joined us on Eli’s journey and took part in celebrating his life. Long may our happy Viking live on in our hearts and minds !
Thanks for sharing Eli’s story. We adapted the beautiful poem written by Clive and used it in my daugther’s funeral. Madelyn just died from DIPG on December 10, 2015. You can see the adapted version of the poem at:

Of course, we gave credit to Clive for his words. We are so sorry for your loss of Eli.

Oh wow Jesse. I don’t know what to say except for the fact that we have followed Maddy’s journey from afar and my family and I were deeply saddened to hear of her sudden demise and her dying just a few days ago. Our hearts go out to you and to your family and we are sending you all of our strength particularly at this time. I’m comforted sensing that Eli will have already embraced Maddy and that they will be able to play together like only little children can. I’m so happy that my dad’s poem was also special for you and your family, he was overwhelmed when I told him your story. Love Sarah
